Shoes as Art

Another example of the ad campaign of Christian Louboutin done by the photographer Peter Lippmann. Here the photo ist quoting the painting Portrait d’une Negresse (1800) by Marie Guillemine Benoist.

Great Emotions

This photo by Patrick Demarchelier was published Harper’s Bazaar in February 2002. It's quoting the famous pop-art painting "OH, JEFF.. I LOVE YOU, TOO.. BUT..." (1964) by Roy Lihtenstein.

This editorial by the Photographer Steven Meisel with the model Sasha Pivovarova appeared in Vogue Italia in March 2007. It’s another homage to the great Bauhaus designers of the 1920s.

Baroque Shoes

The French footwear designer Christian Louboutin likes art and traditions. So it he worked with photographer Peter Lippmann to create a series of art inspired ads for his fall 2011 campaign.

This photo is a quotation of the famous baroque painting "Magdalene and the Flame” (1640) by the French artist Georges de La Tour.

Retro Pin Up

The American actress Carla Gugino is posing here for Vanity Fair Vanities in 2008. The photo was shot by Matthew Rolston and is a clear homage to Gil Elvgren and his famous pin-up painting "Your move" from 1964.

Cool Birds

The Brasilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana is posing here for her homeland edition of L'Officiel Brazil. The photos were shot by the photographer Jacques Dequeker.

It’s not only the birds that reminds me of "The Birds" (1963) by Alfred Hitchcock, it’s also the pose reminding me a lot of the cool actress and fashion model Tippi Hedren.

Hopper as Backdrop

These photos by Max Abadian were published in FLARE magazine in September 2009. Called "East Coast Escape" I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they remind so much of some paintings by Edward Hopper.

This ad for Absolut Vodka was done with Kate Beckinsale in 2010. It’s a clear quote of the good old B-movie "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" (1958).

Looks like Space Babe

The top model Toni Garrn in the German Vogue in march 2009. There it was presented as a new "Cowboy-Look". But to it looks much more than the good old space babes like for example Caroline Munro inStarcrash (1979).

Ecstatic Madonnas

With these Madonnas the British photographer Miles Aldridge goes even a little furhter like some of the already extreme originals.

Old M.C.Escher as Designer

The lastest collection of the fashion designer Alexander McQueen is a clear reference to the famous Dutch artist M.C.Escher.

The Roots of the Patterns

In the Vogue Italia appeared in December 2007 the famous editorial "Patterns" by Steven Meisel. Meisel received a lot of praise and acclaimation for these really breathtaking photos.

But what was unfortunately never mentioned, at least as far as I know, is how much this famous editorial is influenced by the paintings of the Japanese fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano.


I’m a great admirer of Meisel’s work but: Honor to whom honor is due!

Skoda quotes Art Nouveau

In its latest ad campaign the Czech automobile manufacturer quotes the famous Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha.
Nothing wrong with that, because Mucha himself did a lot of advertising.

Here Samsung pretends that their new LCD TV is inspired by art. And indeed it is, ad least the ad, which is quoting the Matrix films.

Foam-arisen Venus

This ad for a L.A.M.B. Fragrance is another interpretation of good old Venus or Aphrodite arising of the sea foam. Maybe there are countless paintings of this subject here only one example.

Shoe Still Lifes

This impressive ad campaign for Christian Louboutin was shot by the American photographer Peter Lippmann. He arranged every picture so that they emulated classic still life paintings from the 17th and 18th century.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

This ad for a PETA animal rights campaign is quoting the famous film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953), modifying the title into "Gentlemen Prefer Fur Free Blondes."

Odalisques

Kate Moss in a hammam by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. She’s posing in that Turkish bath like the famous odalisques on the 19th century paintings. Like for example this one by the French painter Jean Léon Gérôme.
Probably needless to mention, that this kind of women were more an invention of European fantasies.
